Passion is the keyword that my wife and I use to give talented young artists the opportunity to develop further. It is of the utmost importance to us that artists are allowed and able to be themselves. Together with us, they set the course they want to take. We offer them the opportunity to discover as many facets of our wonderful music industry as possible.
Nathalie Matthys is one of those rare gems: studying, playing, composing, arranging and singing come together in her in a masterful and effortless way. Like her father Marc, with whom we have made many recordings, she effortlessly combines all facets of “being a musician”. If we had to describe it, we would call it crossover with a capital C, interspersed with excellent artistic taste.
In these recordings, she takes you on an inspiring musical journey and brings this carefully curated repertoire to life. She is a super-talented musician through and through, and pigeonholing her is impossible. She effortlessly combines different genres and turns them into a seamless whole that is immediately accessible to a very diverse audience. Nathalie is a real showstopper, if you’ll pardon the expression, but when you see her perform live, something magical happens and she enthrals her audience.
Special thanks go to her father Marc and her husband Josef, himself a brilliant and gifted clarinettist. Together, they elevate these recordings to a higher level.
We have enjoyed every stage of this project and hope that this is the start of a long-term collaboration.

A word of welcome by Nathalie Matthys
In your hand you are holding a labor of love. Love for music in many shapes and forms, love for an endlessly talented cast of collaborators, and love for my three-year-old self, who already felt the irresistible pull of music. With this album, I aim to give you a frame that holds a series of pictures portraying the different shades of my artistic identity. By doing so, I hope you might be inspired to recognize and harmonize all your talents as well.
The first picture is that of the concert pianist. Growing up in a musical family, and inspired by the playing of the great Arcadi Volodos, I decided at an early age to pursue the career of a solo pianist. I loved entering and winning competitions, gaining more input at masterclasses in Belgium and abroad, and obtained my Master’s degree summa cum laude from the Royal Conservatory of Ghent (School of Arts Gent) and continued my education at Indiana University (Jacobs School of Music) after winning a Fulbright scholarship. Throughout these formative years, I profoundly enjoyed performing solo recitals and playing with orchestra, but also cherished smaller ensemble projects, especially those involving family or friends. Thus the second picture; that of the chamber musician. One who loves sharing music, not just with an audience, but also with fellow musicians on stage. The fact that the two most important men in my life made time in their busy schedules to join me for this project means the world to me. But it also posed the question of which repertoire to include in this first album. When the time came to decide, it felt right to honor my musical heritage by programming a selection of my father’s original compositions alongside one of the greatest ‘genre-crossing’ icons of the 20th century; George Gershwin. You see, classical pieces were by no means the only tones blasting through our hi-fi system at home. Perhaps the majority of the music we grew up listening to was jazz, R&B, indie, and soul, with a special love for those artists who faded the lines between different styles. It is why I started singing and why I pursued jazz studies in Belgium and in the US alongside my classical training. This neatly intertwines with the third picture; that of the singer-songwriter. This part of me needed a bit of time to crawl out of her shell and is still developing the confidence to sit proudly next to her classical alter ego, but is for that all the more proud to present the original songs you are about to listen to. The creative process for each of them is very different; sometimes coming from a clear set of ‘rules’ (eg. rhythm, key, feel), sometimes from a lyric, feeling or story I come up with or sometimes from searching colors and harmonies at the piano that morph into a motive or verse. Either way, they emerge from the deepest parts of my soul and are slowly making their way to the world.
Lastly, behind the scenes, is the picture of the arranger who loves to blend and mold and create, to offer something new to audiences and something unique to fellow musicians looking for fresh material to dive into. In short, the aim of Picture Frame is to give you a better idea of who exactly you are listening to; a young artist who loves to play the piano, sing, create, arrange and collaborate. A musician who knew from a very young age what she wanted to do, but needed some time to figure out how to fit it all together coherently and spread the joy for music most effectively.
As with any project of this scope, it takes many hands to turn it into reality. My sincere thanks go out to Patrick Mortier and Geertje Slangen for their faith and trust in me, and their willingness to produce and design my very first album. To Harry De Winde, for the expert recording and mixing, as well as the lovely collaboration during and after the recording process. To Milla Slangen for the beautiful cover. About the artists
Nathalie Matthys, born in Kortrijk in 1994, is a Belgian pianist, singer and songwriter, praised for her sensitive and compellingly earnest interpretations of both classical and jazz music. She has performed as a soloist in Europe and the United States and has collaborated with internationally acclaimed musicians including Sophie Druml, Maya Lévy, Yuki Futami, the Beethoven Frühling Orchester and the Walter Boeykens Ensemble, appearing in renowned concert halls such as the Burgtheater Vienna, Ehrbar Saal Vienna, Flagey Brussels and De Munt Brussels as well as at festivals including ClarinetFest Ostend, Bornem Festival and Gentsche Festspiele.
In 2017, she obtained her Master of Music in classical piano with highest distinction at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent with Vitaly Samoshko. She studied further in the United States at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music with Professor Emile Naoumoff (classical piano) and Professors Sachal Vasandani and Darmon Meader (jazz vocals) with the support of Fulbright, SWUK, Mitialto Foundation and Rotary Kortrijk-Groeninghe. Throughout her education, Nathalie has participated in classical masterclasses with Paul Gulda, Daniel Blumenthal, Severin von Eckardstein and Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden as well as jazz masterclasses with Ewout Pierreux, Jozef Dumoulin and Justin Binek. She is laureate of piano competitions including Belfius Classics (1st laureate, Brussels), the Concours de piano de Liège (1st laureate) and the Rotary-Breughel Competition (3rd laureate, Brussels). Aside from her performing activities, Nathalie is a passionate educator, creator and organiser. She teaches piano and voice at the NMusician Studio in Vienna, was guest-professor for the Beethoven Conservatory Vienna’s summer masterclass and is part of the organizational team of PianoFest Sint-Niklaas, curated by Yannick Van de Velde and Amélie Dendal. She has an active presence online, regularly sharing classical music, jazz, tutorials and vlogs on her Patreon and YouTube channels.
Josef Lamell is an Austrian-American clarinetist and arranger, active internationally and known for his versatility as both a chamber musician and soloist. Born in Houston, Texas in 1994, his education includes a Master of Music from Indiana University, a Master of Arts from the Universität für Musik und Kunst Wien, a Bachelor of Music from the University of Houston, and a Bachelor of Computer Science from the University of Houston. Lamell’s diverse training includes study with renowned musicians such as Reinhard Wieser, James Campbell, Luis Rossi, Boris Allakhverdyan, Randall Griffin, Thomas LeGrand, and Chester Rowell as well as focused specialization into both contemporary techniques and historically informed performance, reflecting his commitment to artistic flexibility.
Lamell has performed as a soloist with orchestras in the United States and Belgium and at festivals in the United States, Belgium, France, Italy, and Israel. Throughout his career, he has shared the stage with distinguished artists such as Roby Lakatos, Marc Matthys, Dirk Brossé, Andreas Helm, Gaby Pas-Van Riet, and Bram Nolf, and in 2023, he presented the Vienna premiere of Kaija Saariaho’s Figura for solo clarinet, piano, and string quartet in cooperation with Wien Modern. His orchestral experience includes serving as principal clarinetist of the Santa Monica Symphony and concerts with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Houston Symphony, as well as collaboration with the American Youth Symphony.In addition to his performance work, Lamell is dedicated to organizing concerts, collaborating with organizations in Vienna such as the Kunst- und Kulturverein Take5 and the Lateinamerikanische Akademische Kulturzentrum (LAK). Lamell is also a passionate arranger and brings his wide-ranging interests into his work, transcribing repertoire from early Baroque to contemporary music, from classical to jazz-crossover. Pianist-Composer, Marc Matthys, born in Ghent in 1956, was attracted to music from a very early age. He made his first steps on the international music scene in 1964 when he won an European title at the Accordion Competition of the “Communauté Européenne de l’Accordéon” in Paris.
His love for the accordion led him to the piano and in 1979 he completed his classical training at the Royal Conservatory of his hometown Ghent. There he obtained the highest degrees in Piano and Chamber-Music and first prizes in Counterpoint and Fugue.
He then went on to become one of Belgium’s most versatile musicians, at ease in both Classical music, Jazz and Pop. He collaborated with various well-known artists such as Shirley Bassey, Toots Thielemans, Eddie Daniels, Neeme Järvi, Dirk Brossé, Aga Winska, Ali Ryerson, Peter Verhoyen, Rudolf Werthen, Walter Boeykens, Jo Lemaire, Leen Persijn, and many others. He also performed at the Belgian Royal Palace, for the BOIC, the World Fare in Shangai and the NFA Convention in Las Vegas to name but a few.
Marc Matthys has realized more than 30 CD’s and 2 DVD’s and has toured in Europe, Russia, China and the USA. He has written over 140 compositions including chamber music, solo pieces, work for larger orchestras, etc. His music has won several prizes (such as the KLARA Composition Contest of 2005 and BAP/SABAM Price for Jazz Themes) and has been performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders, the Belgian National Orchestra, the Saint-Petersburg State symphony orchestra, I Fiamminghi, Arco Baleno and many others.
He was director of the Kortrijk Conservatory between 1986 and 2016, and professor at the Royal Conservatory in Ghent between 1978 and 2016, where he also founded the Jazz Department.
In 2012 he was named “Knight of the Order of Leopold” and “Officer of the Order of the Crown”. Since 2013 he is also a board member the UBC (Union of Belgian Composers).
His latest musical project involves both his daughters Vanessa Matthys (Jazz singer) and Nathalie Matthys (pianist) and renowned violinist Roby Lakatos. The project is entirely available on YouTube and reflects Marc’s typical eclectic music approach.

Passie is het sleutelwoord dat mijn echtgenote en ik hanteren om talentvolle jonge artiesten de kans te geven zich verder te ontplooien. Het is voor ons van het grootste belang dat de artiest zichzelf mag en kan zijn. Samen met ons zetten ze de koers uit die ze willen varen. Wij bieden hen de kans om zo veel mogelijk facetten van onze wonderbaarlijke muziekindustrie te leren ontdekken.
Nathalie Matthys is zo één van die zeldzame parels: studeren, spelen, componeren, arrangeren en zingen komen bij haar op een meesterlijke en ongedwongen manier samen. Net als papa Marc, met wie we al veel opnamen realiseerden, combineert zij zonder problemen alle facetten van het ‘muzikant zijn’. Als we het dan toch moeten omschrijven, dan noemen we het cross-over met een grote C, doorspekt met een uitstekende artistieke smaak.
In deze opnamen neemt ze jullie mee op een inspirerende muzikale reis en laat ze dit met zorg samengestelde repertoire tot leven komen. Zij is een supergetalenteerde ras-muzikante en haar in een hokje stoppen werkt niet. Ze combineert moeiteloos verschillende genres en maakt er één naadloos geheel van dat meteen ook geschikt is voor een heel divers publiek. Nathalie is een echt podiumbeest, vergeef ons de uitdrukking, maar als je haar live aan het werk ziet, gebeurt er iets magisch en brengt ze haar publiek in vervoering.

Welkom door Nathalie Matthys
Dit kleine doosje en vooral de disc binnenin is de vaste vorm van een project vol liefde. Liefde voor muziek in haar vele vormen, liefde voor een eindeloos getalenteerde groep collega’s en liefde voor mijn driejarige ik, die al snel de onweerstaanbare aantrekkingskracht van muziek voelde. Dit album functioneert als het ware als een kader dat een reeks foto’s omlijst die de verschillende facetten van mijn artistieke identiteit weergeven. Ik hoop dat je hierdoor geïnspireerd raakt om ook al je unieke talenten te (h)erkennen en te versmelten.
De eerste foto is die van de concertpianiste. Ik groeide op in een muzikaal gezin en kreeg de microbe te pakken door een opname van meesterpianist Arcadi Volodos. Na het horen van die Rachmaninov besloot ik simpelweg om een carrière als solopianiste na te streven. Ik vond het heerlijk om mee te doen aan wedstrijden en die te winnen, meer input te krijgen tijdens masterclasses in België en in het buitenland, en behaalde mijn masterdiploma met grootste onderscheiding aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium (HoGent School of Arts) van Gent. Na het winnen van een Fulbright-beurs vervolgde ik mijn opleiding aan Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music. Tijdens deze vormende jaren genoot ik enorm van het geven van solorecitals en het spelen met orkest, maar koesterde ik ook kleinere ensembleprojecten, in het bijzonder die waarbij familie of vrienden betrokken waren. Vandaar de tweede afbeelding: die van de kamermusicus. Iemand die graag muziek deelt, niet alleen met een publiek, maar ook met medemuzikanten op het podium. Het feit dat de twee belangrijkste mannen in mijn leven tijd vrijmaakten in hun drukke agenda’s om mee te doen aan dit project, betekent ontzettend veel voor mij.
Maar het riep ook de vraag op welk repertoire ik in dit eerste album zou opnemen. Toen het moment kwam om te beslissen, voelde het juist om mijn muzikale erfgoed te eren door een selectie van mijn vaders originele composities te programmeren naast een van de grootste ‘genre-overschrijdende’ iconen van de 20e eeuw: George Gershwin. Klassieke werken waren namelijk niet de enige klanken die door onze geluidsinstallatie thuis schalden. Een groot deel van de muziek waar we mee opgroeiden was jazz, R&B, indie en soul, met een speciale voorliefde voor artiesten die de grenzen tussen verschillende stijlen deden vervagen. Daarom ben ik begonnen met zingen en heb ik naast mijn klassieke opleiding ook jazz gestudeerd in België en de VS. Dit sluit mooi aan bij de derde foto, die van de singer-songwriter. Dit deel van mij had wat tijd nodig om uit haar schulp te kruipen en is nog steeds bezig het zelfvertrouwen te ontwikkelen om fier naast haar klassieke alter ego te staan, maar ze is des te trotser om de originele nummers te presenteren die je zo gaat beluisteren. Het creatieve proces voor elk van deze nummers is heel verschillend; soms komt het voort uit een duidelijke set ‘regels’ (bv. ritme, toonsoort, feel), soms uit een tekst, gevoel of verhaal dat ik bedenk, en soms uit het zoeken naar kleuren en harmonieën op de piano die veranderen in een motief of couplet. Hoe dan ook, ze komen voort uit het diepste van mijn ziel en vinden langzaam en voorzichtig hun weg naar de wereld.
Ten slotte is er het beeld van de arrangeur die graag vermengt, vormt en creëert, om het publiek iets nieuws en collega-muzikanten iets fris en unieks te bieden. Kortom, het doel van Picture Frame is om je een beter idee te geven van naar wie je precies luistert: een jonge artieste die graag piano speelt, zingt, creëert, arrangeert en samenwerkt. Een muzikante die al op zeer jonge leeftijd wist wat ze wilde doen, maar wat tijd nodig had om uit te zoeken hoe ze alles op een coherente manier kon samenbrengen en de vreugde voor muziek zo effectief mogelijk kon verspreiden.
Zoals bij elk project van deze omvang zijn er veel handen nodig om het te realiseren. Mijn oprechte dank gaat uit naar Patrick Mortier en Geertje Slangen voor hun geloof en vertrouwen in mij, en hun bereidheid om mijn allereerste album te produceren en te ontwerpen. Aan Harry De Winde, voor de deskundige opname en mix, en voor de fijne samenwerking tijdens en na het opnameproces. Aan Milla Slangen voor het prachtige design van de hoes. Aan mijn papa, Marc Matthys, en mijn man, Josef Lamell, voor hun optreden en hun steun tijdens dit hele proces. Zijn liefde voor het accordeon bracht hem uiteindelijk bij de piano en in 1979 vervolledigde hij zijn klassieke opleiding aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van zijn geboortestad Gent. Hij behaalde er ondermeer het Hoger Diploma Piano en Kamermuziek alsook eerste prijzen in contrapunt en fuga.
Vandaag is Marc Matthys één van België’s meest veelzijdige musici, uitermate gewaardeerd in diverse muziekgenres zoals Klassiek, Jazz, Pop en Crossover. Dit leidde tot verschillende samenwerkingen met bekende namen als Shirley Bassey, Toots Thielemans, Eddie Daniels, Neeme Järvi, Dirk Brossé, Aga Winska, Ali Ryerson, Peter Verhoyen, Rudolf Werthen, Walter Boeykens, Jo Lemaire, Leen Persijn en vele anderen. Hij trad ook ondermeer op voor het Belgisch Vorstenhuis, het BOIC, tijdens de Wereldtentoonstelling te Shangai en de NFA Conventie te Las Vegas waar hij eigen werk bracht.
Tot op heden realiseerde Marc Matthys meer dan 30 CD’s en 2 DVD’s en concerteerde hij in Europa, Rusland, China en de Verenigde Staten. Hij schreef ook meer dan 140 composities voor verschillende bezettingen gaande van kamermuziek, Jazz, Crossover tot werk voor groot orkest. Zijn muziek werd bekroond met verschillende prijzen, zoals de KLARA compositiewedstrijd van 2005 en de BAP/SABAM Prijs voor Jazz Thema’s en werd uitgevoerd door onder meer het Koninklijk Filharmonisch Orkest van Vlaanderen, het Nationaal Orkest van België, het “Saint-Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra”, I Fiamminghi, Arco Baleno, etc.
Van 1986 tot 2016 was Marc Matthys directeur van het Conservatorium te Kortrijk en van 1978 tot 2016 was hij Artistiek Docent aan de Hogeschool Gent, waar hij ook de Jazzafdeling stichtte. In 2012 werd hij benoemd tot “Ridder in de Leopoldsorde” en “Officier in de Kroonorde”. Hij is sinds 2013 lid van de raad van bestuur van UBC (Unie van Belgische Componisten).
Van april 2015 tot 2019 was Marc Matthys voorzitter van ComAV, de Vlaamse Componistenvereniging.

La passion est le mot clé que mon épouse et moi utilisons pour donner à de jeunes artistes talentueux la possibilité de s’épanouir davantage. Il est pour nous primordial que l’artiste puisse être lui-même. Avec nous, ils définissent la voie qu’ils souhaitent suivre. Nous leur offrons la possibilité de découvrir autant de facettes que possible de notre merveilleuse industrie musicale.
Nathalie Matthys est l’une de ces perles rares : étudier, jouer, composer, arranger et chanter, tout cela lui vient avec une aisance et une maîtrise remarquables. Tout comme son père Marc, avec qui nous avons déjà réalisé de nombreux enregistrements, elle combine sans difficulté toutes les facettes du métier de musicien. Si nous devions le décrire, nous parlerions d’un crossover avec un grand C, empreint d’un goût artistique exceptionnel.
Dans ces enregistrements, elle vous emmène dans un voyage musical inspirant et donne vie à ce répertoire soigneusement composé. C’est une musicienne de talent exceptionnel, impossible à cataloguer. Elle combine sans effort différents genres et en fait un tout harmonieux qui convient immédiatement à un public très diversifié. Nathalie est une véritable bête de scène, excusez-nous l’expression, mais quand on la voit travailler en direct, il se passe quelque chose de magique et elle transporte son public.
Nous tenons à remercier tout particulièrement papa Marc et son mari Josef, lui-même clarinettiste brillant et talentueux. Ensemble, ils élèvent ces enregistrements à un niveau supérieur.

Bienvenue par Nathalie Matthys
Vous tenez entre vos mains le fruit d’un travail réalisé avec amour. L’amour pour la musique sous toutes ses formes, l’amour pour une équipe de collaborateurs au talent infini, et l’amour pour moi-même à l’âge de trois ans, qui ressentais déjà l’attrait irrésistible de la musique. Avec cet album, je souhaite vous offrir un cadre qui rassemble une série d’images illustrant les différentes facettes de mon identité artistique. Ce faisant, j’espère vous inciter à reconnaître et à harmoniser tous vos talents.
La première image est celle du pianiste de concert. Ayant grandi dans une famille de musiciens et inspiré par le jeu du grand Arcadi Volodos, j’ai décidé très tôt de poursuivre une carrière de pianiste soliste. J’aimais participer à des concours et les remporter, acquérir davantage de connaissances lors de master classes en Belgique et à l’étranger, et j’ai obtenu mon master avec mention très bien au Conservatoire royal de Gand (School of Arts Gent) avant de poursuivre mes études à l’université de l’Indiana (Jacobs School of Music) après avoir remporté une bourse Fulbright. Tout au long de ces années formatrices, j’ai profondément apprécié les récitals en solo et les concerts avec orchestre, mais j’ai également chéri les projets en petits ensembles, en particulier ceux impliquant ma famille ou mes amis. D’où la deuxième image : celle du musicien de chambre. Quelqu’un qui aime partager la musique, non seulement avec le public, mais aussi avec ses collègues musiciens sur scène. Le fait que les deux hommes les plus importants de ma vie aient pris le temps, malgré leur emploi du temps chargé, de se joindre à moi pour ce projet signifie énormément pour moi.
Mais cela soulevait également la question du répertoire à inclure dans ce premier album. Au moment de prendre une décision, il m’a semblé juste d’honorer mon héritage musical en programmant une sélection de compositions originales de mon père aux côtés de l’une des plus grandes icônes « transcendant les genres » du XXe siècle : George Gershwin. Vous voyez, les morceaux classiques n’étaient en aucun cas les seuls à résonner dans notre chaîne hi-fi à la maison. La plupart des musiques que nous écoutions quand nous étions enfants étaient plutôt du jazz, du R&B, de l’indie et de la soul, avec une affection particulière pour les artistes qui brouillaient les frontières entre les différents styles. C’est pourquoi j’ai commencé à chanter et pourquoi j’ai poursuivi des études de jazz en Belgique et aux États-Unis, parallèlement à ma formation classique. Cela rejoint parfaitement la troisième image, celle de l’auteure-compositrice-interprète. Cette partie de moi a eu besoin d’un peu de temps pour sortir de sa coquille et elle est encore en train de développer la confiance nécessaire pour s’asseoir fièrement aux côtés de son alter ego classique, mais elle est d’autant plus fière de vous présenter les chansons originales que vous allez écouter. Le processus créatif pour chacune d’entre elles est très différent : parfois, il découle d’un ensemble de « règles » claires (par exemple, le rythme, la tonalité, l’ambiance), parfois d’une parole, d’un sentiment ou d’une histoire que j’ai imaginés, et parfois encore de la recherche de couleurs et d’harmonies au piano qui se transforment en motif ou en couplet. Quoi qu’il en soit, elles émergent du plus profond de mon âme et se frayent lentement un chemin vers le monde.
Enfin, dans les coulisses, on trouve l’image de l’arrangeuse qui aime mélanger, modeler et créer, afin d’offrir quelque chose de nouveau au public et quelque chose d’unique à ses collègues musiciens à la recherche de nouveaux morceaux à explorer. En bref, l’objectif de Picture Frame est de vous donner une meilleure idée de qui vous écoutez exactement : une jeune artiste qui aime jouer du piano, chanter, créer, arranger et collaborer. Une musicienne qui savait dès son plus jeune âge ce qu’elle voulait faire, mais qui avait besoin d’un peu de temps pour trouver comment assembler le tout de manière cohérente et transmettre le plus efficacement possible sa joie de faire de la musique.
Comme pour tout projet de cette envergure, il faut beaucoup de monde pour le concrétiser. Je tiens à remercier sincèrement Patrick Mortier et Geertje Slangen pour leur confiance en moi et leur volonté de produire et de concevoir mon tout premier album. Au sujet des artistes
Nathalie Matthys, née à Courtrai en 1994, est une pianiste, chanteuse et auteur-compositrice belge, reconnue pour ses interprétations sensibles et convaincantes de la musique classique et du jazz. Elle s’est produite en tant que soliste en Europe et aux États-Unis et a collaboré avec des musiciens de renommée internationale tels que Sophie Druml, Maya Lévy, Yuki Futami, le Beethoven Frühling Orchester et le Walter Boeykens Ensemble. Elle entre en scène dans des salles de concert renommées telles que le Burgtheater de Vienne, l’Ehrbar Saal de Vienne, le Flagey de Bruxelles et le De Munt de Bruxelles, ainsi que dans des festivals tels que le ClarinetFest Ostende, le Bornem Festival et le Gentsche Festspiele.
En 2017, elle a obtenu son Master of Music en piano classique avec la plus haute distinction au Conservatoire royal de Gand auprès de Vitaly Samoshko. Elle a poursuivi ses études aux États-Unis à la Jacobs School of Music de l’Université de l’Indiana avec le professeur Émile Naoumoff (piano classique) et les professeurs Sachal Vasandani et Darmon Meader (chant jazz) avec le soutien de Fulbright, SWUK, Mitialto Foundation et Rotary Kortrijk-Groeninghe. Tout au long de sa formation, Nathalie a participé à des masterclasses classiques avec Paul Gulda, Daniel Blumenthal, Severin von Eckardstein et Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden ainsi qu’à des masterclasses de jazz avec Ewout Pierreux, Jozef Dumoulin et Justin Binek. Elle est lauréate de concours de piano dont Belfius Classics (1er lauréat, Bruxelles), le Concours de piano de Liège (1er lauréat) et le Concours Rotary-Breughel (3ème lauréat, Bruxelles).
Parallèlement à ses activités d’interprète, Nathalie est une éducatrice, une créatrice et une organisatrice passionnée. Elle enseigne le piano et le chant au NMusician Studio à Vienne, a été professeur invité pour la masterclass d’été du Conservatoire Beethoven de Vienne et fait partie de l’équipe d’organisation du PianoFest Sint-Niklaas, organisé par Yannick Van de Velde et Amélie Dendal. Elle a une présence active en ligne, partageant régulièrement de la musique classique, du jazz, des tutoriels et des vlogs sur ses chaînes Patreon et YouTube.
Josef Lamell est un clarinettiste et arrangeur austro-américain, actif au niveau international et connu pour sa polyvalence en tant que musicien de chambre et soliste. Né à Houston (Texas) en 1994, il est titulaire d’une maîtrise en musique de l’Indiana University, d’une maîtrise en arts de l’Universität für Musik und Kunst Wien, d’une licence en musique de l’University of Houston et d’une licence en informatique de l’University of Houston. La formation diversifiée de Lamell comprend des études avec des musiciens renommés tels que Reinhard Wieser, James Campbell, Luis Rossi, Boris Allakhverdyan, Randall Griffin, Thomas LeGrand et Chester Rowell, ainsi qu’une spécialisation ciblée dans les techniques contemporaines et l’interprétation fondée sur l’histoire, ce qui reflète son engagement en faveur de la flexibilité artistique.
Lamell s’est produit en tant que soliste avec des orchestres aux États-Unis et en Belgique et lors de festivals aux États-Unis, en Belgique, en France, en Italie et en Israël. Tout au long de sa carrière, il a partagé la scène avec des artistes de renom tels que Roby Lakatos, Marc Matthys, Dirk Brossé, Andreas Helm, Gaby Pas-Van Riet et Bram Nolf. En 2023, il a présenté la première viennoise de Figura de Kaija Saariaho pour clarinette solo, piano et quatuor à cordes, en collaboration avec Wien Modern. Il a été clarinettiste principal de l’Orchestre symphonique de Santa Monica et a donné des concerts avec l’Orchestre de Cleveland et l’Orchestre symphonique de Houston, tout en collaborant avec l’American Youth Symphony.
En plus de son travail d’interprète, Lamell se consacre à l’organisation de concerts, collaborant avec des organisations viennoises telles que le Kunst- und Kulturverein Take5 et le Lateinamerikanische Akademische Kulturzentrum (LAK). Lamell est également un arrangeur passionné et met à profit ses vastes centres d’intérêt dans son travail, en transcrivant un répertoire allant du baroque ancien à la musique contemporaine, du classique au jazz-crossover. Ses arrangements visent à présenter au public un répertoire varié et attrayant, tout en permettant aux clarinettistes d’accéder facilement à un matériel rafraîchissant et de qualité, ce qui témoigne de son engagement en faveur de la clarinette et de la communauté musicale au sens large.

Pianiste-Compositeur Marc Matthys, née à Gand en 1956, est un passionné de musique depuis son plus jeune âge. Ses premiers pas sur la scène internationale ont eu lieu en 1964, à Paris, où il a gagné le titre européen au concours d’accordéon de la « Communauté Européenne de l’Accordéon”.
Son amour pour l’accordéon l’a finalement dirigé vers le piano et en 1979, il complète sa formation classique au Conservatoire Royale de sa ville natale de Gand où il a obtenu les plus hautes récompenses en piano et musique de chambre ainsi que les premiers prix en contrepoint et fugue.
Depuis, Marc Matthys est devenu un des musiciens belges les plus versatiles de sa génération, à l’aise dans plusieurs genres, que ce soit la musique classique, le jazz ou le pop. Ses collaborations avec des musiciens internationaux comme Shirley Bassey, Toots Thielemans, Eddie Daniels, Neeme Järvi, Dirk Brossé, Aga Winska, Ali Ryerson, Peter Verhoyen, Rudolf Werthen, Walter Boeykens, Jo Lemaire, Leen Persijn, etc reflètent cette versatilité.
Marc Matthys a réalisé une trentaine de CD’s et deux DVD’s. Il a donné des concerts en Europe, la Russie, les Etats-Unis et la Chine. Il s’est produit au Palais Royale Belge, pour le BOIC, à l’ Exposition Mondiale de Shangai et à la Convention NFA à Las Vegas.
Ses compositions incluent une cent-quarante de morceaux pour orchestre, ensembles et solistes. Sa musique a gagné plusieurs prix, comme la première « Compétition de Composition » de KLARA en 2005 et le prix BAP/SABAM pour “Thèmes Jazz” et a été joué par la Philarmonie Royale de Flandres, l’Orchestre Nationale de Belgique, le Saint-Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, I Fiamminghi, Arco Baleno etc.
Entre 1986 et 2016 il était également Directeur du Conservatoire de Courtrai et entre 1978 et 2016, Professeur au Conservatoire Royale de Gand où il a fondé le département Jazz.
En 2012 il a été nommé “Chevalier dans l’Ordre de Léopold” et “Officier dans l’Ordre de la Couronne”. Depuis 2013 il est également membre du directoire de ”l’Union des Compositeurs Belges” (UBC) et de la “World Soundtrack Academy” (WSA).
Son dernier projet musical inclut ses deux filles, Vanessa Matthys (chanteuse de Jazz) et Nathalie Matthys (pianiste) ainsi que le violoniste mondialement renommé, Robby Lakatos.
